Plot
The film is a story of two friends, Tara (Jenna Kanell) and Dawn (Catherine Corcoran) whom meet evil and silent Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) on Halloween night. As the night unfolds, Art's dark games become increasingly violent and the two friends must fight to survive the brutal assault. The plot might not be groundbreaking however, it's an effective vehicle to highlight it's greatest strengths and the terrifying creature called Art the Clown.
Realistic Effects and Gruesome Images
One of the most striking aspects of "Terrifier" can be seen in its dedication to realistic effects. This is a period in which CGI has become the go-to for many filmmakers, the decision of Leone to utilize practical effects not only brings back the classic gore, but also imparts an intense, tangible feel to the gore. The creative and disturbingly grisly kills are a testament to that of the originality of the team of special effects, headed by Leone himself, who has a background working in SFX makeup. From the brutal dismemberment of a individual to the gross facial mutilations of another "Terrifier" extends the boundaries of violence that is onscreen and creates an incredibly terrifying experience.
David Howard Thornton's Surreal Performance as Art the Clown

Thornton's physical portrayal is remarkable as he demonstrates an impressive (blog post) mastery over facial expressions and body language that make the entire action infuriating. The performance is further enhanced by his silence of the dialogue, forcing the actor to rely entirely on his body, and face to communicate Art's bizarre motives. This silence only enhances the character's dread-inducing presence which makes him one of the most frightening horror movie villains in the 21st century.
The Film's Limited Budget A Test of Creativity, and resourcefulness
Another impressive aspect of "Terrifier" Its ability to create a truly terrifying experience even with a very limited budget. The film was reported to be made at around $100,000, a one-third of what most horror films cost to create. Despite this, Leone has managed to create a visually stunning and deeply unsettling experience that competes with many higher-budget horror films.
The filmmakers' inventiveness is evident in the film's grim, urban setting that communicates a sense and vulnerability. In addition, the budgetary constraints probably played a role in the decision to make use of practical effects that, as was mentioned previously are only meant to enhance the film's overall impact.
A Critical Reception Response and Fan Response
"Terrifier" is very well-received by viewers and critics alike, gaining its fans a loyal following within the horror scene. The film has been praised by critics with its original effects, and Thornton's shocking performance in the role of Art the Clown, and the ability to deliver an incredibly terrifying experience with very little money. Filmgoers have embraced the film because of the uncompromising brutality, unsettling atmosphere as well as its memorable villain.
Conclusion
Damien Leone's "Terrifier" is an exemplary demonstration of what's possible to be made of creativity, resourcefulness and a thorough knowledge of what makes horror truly frightening. With its horrifying practical effects, David Howard Thornton's unsettling depiction of Art the Clown, and its impressive accomplishment on a limited budget "Terrifier" is now among the best terror films in 21st-century. For those who enjoy the genre This film is not to be overlooked.
